Traditional Chinese Medicine treatments in Melbourne
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is one of the world’s oldest integrated systems of primary health care. The aim of acupuncture is to stimulate specific points along the body’s meridians to correct imbalances in the body’s flow of energy and as a result, relieve patient symptoms. Very fine acupuncture needles are commonly used to stimulate these points. Qualified acupuncturists may also use related therapies such as moxa and cupping to stimulate acupuncture points to manage health conditions.
The Traditional Chinese Medicine profession joined the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme for the Health Professions in 2012. This is the same scheme that regulates medical practitioners, physiotherapists, dentists and nurses. Chinese Medicine practitioners must now be registered with the Chinese Medicine Board of Australia (CMBA), which is supported by AHPRA, in order to offer acupuncture and Chinese Medicine services to the Australian public.
